What are vocational skills?

Vocational skills are practical or firsthand skills that help a person master a trade or a job. These skills may be obtained on the job or at a vocational school. A vocational school provides technical education to prepare people for work in a trade, craft, or profession.

Tanzania Youth Support and Self Reliance Organization have the Idea that Vocational training skills will help to unlock youth difficulties and expose them multi- potential opportunities.

Why is vocational training important in Tanzania?

Vocational training develops skills of the individual human being culminating into the accumulated knowledge and technical skills that are needed for national development. Skilled personnel constitute the most important resource for national development.

For this reason Tanzania Youth Support and Self reliance noted its essential to impart skills to Vulnerable youth especially those who are coming from Orphanage centers hoping they will be able employ themselves or get employed somewhere and drive their own lives and finally contribute to national economy.

What is basic vocational?

Basic vocational education and training is an elementary training normally taken for short range of time. Its intended to imparts the skills and abilities that are needed in working life. It usually takes place in a host company, in a vocational school and through inter-company courses.

Why is vocational training?

Vocational Education and Training (VET) equips young people (Youth) to become effective wage-earners or entrepreneurs and boosts their long-term employability. Combined with job creation, it can reduce youth unemployment and stabilize fragile contexts in a society and the community at large.

SKILLS TO BE OFFERED

Tanzania Youth Support and Self Reliance Organization has prepared a portfolio of basic or Elementary Vocational Trainings to be offered to the expected beneficiaries. 

The most targeted groups are Youth from Orphanage Centers, Youth from most risky Environment, and those with disabilities who couldn’t get an opportunity to be included in formal education or Vocational training.

These are the basic trainings the Organization will be offering to youth. The selection of these basic vocational programs was critically analyzed by members of the Board, to see how beneficial they are to Youth. We have proved these programs to offer essential benefits to youth shortly after completing the course.

In Long run the Organization will solicit other short courses like tailoring, Electricity Installation and Plumbing if we get reasonable resources to finance. We believe by expanding the portfolio the NGO will have huge positive impacts to the lives of many who otherwise wouldn’t have access.
